Claude Brown, (who wrote Manchild in the Promised Land),
… said that people under forty … have never lived in America where movie
language was not liberally laced with obscenities. He said that profanity is rapidly replacing
English as the language of the American people. Then he added, "Most people don't know it,
but profanity is the language of violence."
People say, words can't hurt you. They can hurt you.
Words can dehumanize…. Often the
language that is used in our society … is the language that dehumanize. There are words that hurt people.
There are words that profane what is sacred and holy about human life.
You use them and they will affect your life, and the life of
those around you.
But there are words that heal, build, create, unite, reconcile you to someone
…. Who will be the people in this society
who speak these words? (The Power of Words, Mark
Trotter, Collected Sermons) “… commend to
His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or
sufferers in the lamentable civil strife ….” (Lincoln 10/03/1863)
To be successful in life you need:
1. a vision/words
2. to work hard and smart
3. preserve
To be a successful Christian you need:
1. a vision/words – child of God
2. to work hard and smart – serve God always
3. preserve – be a Christian one day at a time
St. Jane de Chantal taught us “In prayer one must hold fast and never let go ….” Pope Francis at the World Youth Day in 2013 urged “Do not be afraid to go and to bring Christ into every area of life ….” Our time of preparation can start today by making our words and our actions are gift to God.
May God Be Praised!
COVID 19 Pandemic Prayer
Hear my cry! “Lord, listen to my prayer: turn your ear to my appeal.” You are my refuge and my hope, I turn to you during this COVID 19 Pandemic and plead for Your intercession. In Your mercy and Your compassion “… grant eternal rest to the dead, comfort to mourners, healing to the sick ….”
[Psalm 143 and Collect from Mass Time in Pandemic]
Provide strength to the first responders, compassion to the medical personnel, and wisdom to government leaders. End this coronavirus scourge. Send Your light to me as I wander in the darkness of this pandemic and give me hope in Your eternal love today and every day. Amen. [Dcn. George Kelly]
