Blog Post 06-16-2025 Suffering?

Pope St. John Paul II said, "It is suffering, more than anything else, which clears the way for the grace which transforms human souls. Suffering, more than anything else makes present in the history of humanity the powers of the Redemption."

Suffering is the most difficult and perplexing burden we humans face. This story does not answer why there is human suffering, but it does suggest a way to deal with it here on earth.

About two hundred years before Christ lived, a rabbi was teaching a group of his students (4 or 5 students) on a little hill outside of their village. As he was teaching, their village was invaded by foreign troops. There was screaming, yelling, mayhem, and fire.

Finally, the rabbi looked up to heaven and screamed: “If only I were God!”  One of his students asked him, “Rabbi, what would you do differently if you were God?” The rabbi answered, “I would do nothing differently, but I would understand.”

We do not know why there is suffering, however Jesus offers us a way to deal with it, offer our suffering to God the Father and ask Him to make good come from it. May we follow Jesus’ example.

May God Be Praised.
