Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI [4/16/1927 – 12/31/2022]
In the Office of the Dead, we pray from Psalm 40, “Happy the man who has placed his trust in the Lord.” Joseph Ratzinger trusted the Lord, may He Rest in Peace, his journey ended here on earth.
“Each of us is the result of a thought of God.
Each of us is willed.
Each of us is loved.
Each of us is necessary.” [Pope Benedict XVI]
Teihard de Chardin, S.J. wrote, “We are not human beings on a spiritual journey, we are spiritual beings on a human journey.” Today, Joseph Ratzinger, son, brother, priest, Bishop, Pope, scholar, [most importantly] a disciple of Jesus Christ was laid to rest, may his good deeds go with him, and we pray that God has mercy on his soul. The final words Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI uttered before he died, expressed his deep faith, “Jesus, ich liebe dich!” Jesus, I love you.
