Hineni [hee-nay-nee] – An Attitude we should live

“Hineni cannot be made, or planned any more than God can be controlled or summoned at our will.  It is an act of the will, but attitude of willingness.” [p.xxi]

A Willingness to give, to surrender to the deepest part of life – living trust in saying to God “Here I am.”  The surrender is a leap of faith, not knowing what god is asking of you other than surrender to God’s plan.

Hineni is a response to the mystery of God, to accept God’s call as Abraham did and accept all God’s grace to guide and mold you.

Alisa Kasmir has written a short but insightful book, “Hineni: In Imitation of Abraham”.

“Hineni means giving what is given without motive or expectation.  It means giving without needs, without agenda, from the God in me to the God in you, simply because the request is heard.  That’s all.  Some call it grace.”  [p.33]

Begin today and pray “Here I am Lord” and then do God’s will.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us.

St. Francis de Sales, pray for us.

May God Be Praised and your day be Blessed.
