Offered by Dcn. George Kelly

We are not bad people, BUT we are a sinful people!  Remember in the Book of Exodus where the people grumbled against Moses, “Why did you ever make us leave Egypt?”

Pope Francis reminded us that “We are all tempted, because … our spiritual life, our Christian life, is a battle….  the devil does not want us to become holy … to follow Jesus.”

Spring must be close because the Major League Baseball teams are in Spring Training honing their athletic skills for the upcoming season.  All those players are working on three fundamental skills: throwing, fielding, and hitting.

The three spiritual basics we need to work on in our lives as disciples of Christ are:

1.    our relationship with Jesus,

2.    admitting our sinfulness,

3.    and finding the meaning and purpose of our life.

Lent reminds us to examine our lives, to enter the desert of our spiritual existence and invest time and effort in growing closer to Jesus.  The Church recommends three spiritual tools to us: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  They are the throwing, fielding and hitting of the spiritual life.

Lent is a reminder to us of our need to be obedient - the attitude that initiates the right relationships between God and human beings.

Saint Joseph, pray for us.

Saint Andre Bessette intercede for us.

May God Be Blessed!
