Today we celebrate the “Queenship of Mary,” in ancient times the queen was not the wife of the king, but the mother of the king. Isaiah foretells the coming of the Messiah, the great Light, Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.
The angel Gabriel said Mary, “Do not be afraid.” The painter Henry Ossawa Tanner depicted Mary in the Annunciation [today’s Gospel reading] as a bewildered and greatly troubled; take a few minutes today to look at it:

Each one of us is at times, bewildered & troubled, and at those times we should follow the Blessed Mother, the Queen of heaven & earth & do God’s Will. Her last words in the Scriptures were “Do whatever He tells you.”
It is not always easy, but it is always the right thing to do.
May God Be Praised.
