Blog Post 08-31-2025 Most Important Thing in Life.

Lord God pour out Your Grace upon me to open my heart to seek Your will and follow it. Guide my steps on Your path, that I will “Live Jesus.” If I do that I will find You and I will be fulfilled.

Nothing in life is more important than that pursuit.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 08-30-2025 Homily Cycle I 08-08-2025 – Memorial of St. Dominic

He is the patron of astronomers & natural scientists, who popularized the rosary and who started the Dominican Order [O.P.].

There motto is:

To Praise,

To Bless,

To Preach.

St. Francis de Sales urged preachers to speak to people’s heart; heart speaking to heart. Fr. Bernie Donhue O.F.S.F.’s advice, about preaching, to me when I was ordained [he received from his mother], “Be Good, Be Brief & Be Gone” and if you can’t “Be Good, [at least] Be Brief & Be Gone.” So, today’s message from Deuteronomy is to be holy not for God’s sake but for our sake to be a whole and fulfilled human who gives glory to God, the Creator. And Matthew’s Gospel reminds us to put Jesus, to put God first.

Let’s try to do that today.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 08-29-2025 Homily Cycle I 08-22-2025 – Offered at OLPH.

Today we celebrate the “Queenship of Mary,” in ancient times the queen was not the wife of the king, but the mother of the king. Isaiah foretells the coming of the Messiah, the great Light, Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.

The angel Gabriel said Mary, “Do not be afraid.” The painter Henry Ossawa Tanner depicted Mary in the Annunciation [today’s Gospel reading] as a bewildered and greatly troubled; take a few minutes today to look at it:

Each one of us is at times, bewildered & troubled, and at those times we should follow the Blessed Mother, the Queen of heaven & earth & do God’s Will. Her last words in the Scriptures were “Do whatever He tells you.”

It is not always easy, but it is always the right thing to do.

May God Be Praised.
