Offered by Dcn. George Kelly

Lent is here, make it count.

Pope Francis points out an important Lenten message to us, "To be saints is not a privilege for the few, but a vocation for everyone." Our vocation in this life is to be a saint, embrace it and live it.

Thomas A’ Kempis in his book the Initiation of Christ wrote, “Many hear the world more easily than they hear God… The world promises rewards that are temporal and insignificant, and these are pursued with great longing; I promise rewards that are eternal and unsurpassable, yet the hearts of mortals respond sluggishly.”

St. James tells us that wisdom from above is all pure, peaceable, gentle, full of mercy and good friends; the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace.  Peace is not the absence of war and conflict - - But peace is doing God’s will for love of God.

Often virtues like honesty, integrity, loving God, honoring our parents, being faithful to our spouse are made fun of or ridiculed in the movies, T.V. programs and the rest of the entertainment venues. Paul Claudel said, “Jesus did not come to explain away suffering or remove it. He came to fill it with His presence.”  Jesus will fill our suffering with His Presence only if we allow Him too!

Jesus calls us, each of us, to seek greatness by being humble, by being God’s servant here on earth.  Only by putting ourselves in God’s service and walking humbly with God, will we allow God to fill us.  In Proverbs we find this wonderful advice, “…surrender your heart to God and keep your eyes on my footsteps. Then I will place a crown of grace on your head.”

Saint Joseph, pray for us.

Saint Andre Bessette intercede for us.

May God Be Blessed!
