Called to be Servants

Each one of us is called by God to be a servant, and Jesus is our teacher, our role model, and our God.  We usually do not think of Marquis de Lafayette as a servant but this story about him may indicate how even [financially] well off individual can become a servant.

The Marquis de Lafayette was a French general and politician who helped George Washington during the American Revolution. He then returned to France and resumed his life as the lord of several estates. In 1783, the harvest was a poor one, but the workers of Lafayette’s farms still managed to fill his barns with wheat. “The bad harvest has raised the price of wheat,” said one of his workers.

“This is the time to sell.”  Lafayette thought about the hungry peasants in the surrounding villages. “No,” he replied, “this is the time to give.”  [Sermons.com - The Time to Give]

Today take a few moments in thanksgiving for what God has given you and then figure out how you might serve God’s people.

"All you servants of the Lord, sing praise to him."

"Let us bless the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Let us praise and exalt him above all forever.

Blessed are you, Lord, in the firmament of heaven.

Praiseworthy and glorious and exalted above all forever."

Today as we serve God by our lives, may each action we take be praiseworthy.

May God Be Blessed!

            A Prayer for Our Nation

Loving God help us to serve those who are shunned or eschewed; guide our civic leaders; bless our nation; and bestow Your grace upon our elected officials and anoint them with the desire to foster the common good.  Amen.     Dcn. George Kelly]

COVID 19 Pandemic Prayer

Hear my cry!  “Lord, listen to my prayer: turn your ear to my appeal.”  You are my refuge and my hope, I turn to you during this COVID 19 Pandemic and plead for Your intercession.  In Your mercy and Your compassion “… grant eternal rest to the dead, comfort to mourners, healing to the sick ….”

[Psalm 143 and Collect from Mass Time in Pandemic]

Provide strength to the first responders, compassion to the medical personnel, and wisdom to government leaders.  End this coronavirus scourge.  Send Your light to me as I wander in the darkness of this pandemic and give me hope in Your eternal love today and every day.  Amen.  [Dcn. George Kelly]
