A Daily Dose of God

Homily Cycle II 11/20/2020 - Readings: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/112020.cfm

In Today’s first reading we learned that sometimes being good and doing the right thing is easy, but at other times it is difficult, and today’s Gospel reminds us that Prayer is essential.

Here are some Questions on Prayer to think about:

What does prayer mean?

Why Pray?

When should we pray?

How should we pray?

Is Praying a joy or a burden?

Here are some Thoughts on Prayer to reflect upon:

Prayer is how we relate to God; it is building a relationship with God!  It can be formal like the Sign of the Cross, the Our Father, the Hail Mary, Exposition, Stations of the Cross, or Mass, or informal prayer, a conversation with the Lord.

Quiet time with God, were we just be with God, in silence and in hope that we can become aware of God’s presence with us.  Informal prayer is when we just talk with God.  Prayer is spiritual breathing, we need to breath to live, we need to pray to breathe spiritually.

Sometimes our prayers take a funny turn, “A woman invited some people to dinner.  When it was time for dinner, she asked her daughter to say grace.  The little girl said, “I wouldn’t know what to say!”

“Just Say what you hear Mommy say!”  The little girl bowed her head and prayed, “Dear Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?”

It is a prayer from the heart, the heart of the little girl and the heart of her Mom.

Take some prayer time today and every day, especially quiet prayer with God.

May God Be Praised!

            A Prayer for Our Nation

Loving God help us to serve those who are shunned or eschewed; guide our civic leaders; bless our nation; and bestow Your grace upon our elected officials and anoint them with the desire to promote the common good.  Amen.     Dcn. George Kelly]

COVID 19 Pandemic Prayer

Hear my cry!  “Lord, listen to my prayer: turn your ear to my appeal.”  You are my refuge and my hope, I turn to you during this COVID 19 Pandemic and plead for Your intercession.  In Your mercy and Your compassion “… grant eternal rest to the dead, comfort to mourners, healing to the sick ….”

[Psalm 143 and Collect from Mass Time in Pandemic]

Provide strength to the first responders, compassion to the medical personnel, and wisdom to government leaders.  End this coronavirus scourge.  Send Your light to me as I wander in the darkness of this pandemic and give me hope in Your eternal love today and every day.  Amen.  [Dcn. George Kelly]
