Today’s insights from St.
Francis de Sales’ “The Art of Loving God: Simple Virtues for the Christian
Life” are below. This book is drawn for a
series of Conferences [talks] that de Sales gave to the Visitation Nuns in the
early 1600’s.
I recommend you read and reflect on Nicodemus, [John 3: 1-15], http://www.usccb.org/bible/john/3 and Thomas the Apostle [John 20: 26-29], http://www.usccb.org/bible/john/20
Today’s selections come
from Chapters 9 thru 12, they appear below:
[Chapter
Nine – Accept Reproofs without Bitterness] “We should correction without
letting any sensitiveness or bitterness of heart remain with in us.” [p.75]
[Chapter
Ten – Turn Your Attention to God] “You ask how you can succeed in raising your
mind directly to God … you must do as you say – go straight to God ….” [p.85]
[Chapter
Eleven – Simply Love God] “There is a difference between being in the presence
of God and having the feeling of God. God alone can give the latter …. In short, if you ask me ‘What can I do to
acquire the love of God?’ I answer, ‘By
willing to love Him.’” [pp. 91-92]
[Chapter
Twelve – Continue to Make Good Resolutions] “… what you can do to strengthen
your resolutions and make them succeed?
There is no better means than to put them into practice.” [p.96]
Living as a disciple of
Jesus is easy and demanding at the same time, so make your discipleship the
focus of your life, Jesus will take care of the rest.
May
God Be Praised!
