Reflection on the Presentation of the Lord 2/02/19
Today we celebrate the feast of the presentation of the Lord in
the Temple. In our reading form Malachi,
he tells us that God promised to set us free, to remove our impurities. It is a reminder to confess our sins, in
particular our sins of omission; what we should have done and did not do! Malachi uses the image of refining gold and
silver to tells us that the process is not easy, but the result is beautiful
and valuable.
The reading from Hebrews points to Jesus being fully human as
well as fully divine. And in Luke’s
Gospel, Simeon tells Mary and Joseph that Jesus will suffer for us.
The turtle doves are a symbol from a devout and poor Jewish
Family of friendship and love. So today
reflect on your love and friendship with the Lord, the one who is fully human
and fully divine. The Lord Jesus who
shows us the WAY to God!
May
God Be Praised!
