Blog Post Homily Cycle I 06-07-2025 Offered at OLPH [Salesian Saturday].

When you tell the story of your parents or grandparents to your children or grandchildren it is hard to capture their essence: their childhood, their sense of humor or lack thereof, their adult life, their success, and their failures.

In today’s Readings from the Acts of the Apostles and the Gospel of John tries to share the story of Jesus, the essence of our Lord and Savior.

It is difficult for us and it was difficult for those who wrote the Stories of Jesus, Our Lord’s “things” in what we know as the Scriptures. Many of them, in fact most of them were martyred for telling Jesus’ Story. Telling the world that Jesus was the Messiah, true God, and true Man, so that we could come to hear, know and love the Lord. Jesus told Peter “…follow Me” He calls us to do the same.

Teilhard de Chardin said, “Nothing here below is profane for those who know how to see. On the contrary, everything is sacred.” As we live in the world today, may we see the world as sacred and when are time here is ended, we will enter the eternal Sacred Space of Heaven and we will “… gaze on Your face, O Lord.”

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 06-06-2025 Homily Cycle I Offered at OLPH.

Jesus isn’t rubbing Peter’s nose in his [Peter’s] betrayals of Jesus, no Jesus tells Peter and us to love Him as best we can and He [Jesus] will meet us where we are in loving God.

Faith is easy to say and hard to live.

Thankfully, with God when we fail, we can follow the advice of St. Francis de Sales, “Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself.”

When we fail, which we will, we should pick ourselves up dust off our failure and continue with God’s Grace. Remember Jesus meets us where we are & leads us to where we need to be.

Our Gospel Antiphon today is “The Holy Spirit will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.”

Listen too; trust and follow the Holy Spirit.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 06-05-2025 God’s Glory.

God’s Glory "The glory of God is man fully alive, and the life of man is the vision of God." [St. Irenaeus]

God in the Trinity is love fully and Jesus came to show us that love and invite us to Agape, which is the way God loves.

Blog Post 06-04-2025 Homily Cycle I Farewells & Good-Byes.

Today’s Scripture Readings offer us two Farewells or Good-Byes.

Paul to the Church presbyters if Ephesus and Jesus to Disciples. In Limerick, Ireland there is a statue “The Broken Heart” is on the waterfront. It represents the Great Emigration of the Irish to the new world during 1845-1849. It reminds us of three things:

1.      Treasure today’s time with those we love.

2.      When Farewells/Good-byes come, remember they are hard but temporary.

3.      Jesus gives us the Eucharist to prepare us for eternal life..

One day every tear and every sorrow will be wiped away and today ponder what [the mystic] Julian of Norwich said, “All will be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.”She, also, said, “God is all that is good, and God has made all that is made, and God loves all that He has made.”

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 06-03-2025 Little Steps

“The secret of the spiritual life is recognizing and remembering that the Long Journey to God is to take Little Steps each day, each hour with God.”

Today take a little spiritual step and give it to God, repeat that little spiritual step each waking hour and when you retire for the night ask your patron saint to repeat your spiritual step each hour that you rest in the Lord.

Blog Post 06-02-2025 The Gift of Faith

Faith is a gift from God, but like any gift it must be given and received. Our loving God offers us the gift of Faith, when we [assent] accept the gift of Faith the work of feeding our faith and strengthening of Faith begins.

First with the help our parents and then our personal commitment to Jesus though the Sacraments He offers us in His Church.

St. Thomas Aquinas said, "Faith is a habit of the mind whereby eternal life is begun in us, making the intellect assent to what is non-apparent."

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 06-01-2025 A Simple Act of Trust.

*

“O Lord, all you ask of me is a simple ‘yes,’ a simple act of trust, so that your choices for me can bear fruit in my life.” [Henri Nouwen]

Today and every day, give your yes to the Lord.
