Blog Post 03-05-2025 - Ash Wednesday Reflection Following the Lord is A Lifetime Effort.

As Lent begins, “Remember you that are dust and to dust you shall return.” Take a few minutes to reflect on the two selections for St. Francis de Sales below:

“Temptation to a certain sin, to any sin whatsoever, might last throughout our whole life, yet it can never make us displeasing to God’s Majesty provided we do not take pleasure in it and give consent to it. You must have great courage in the midst of temptation. Never think yourself overcome as long as they are displeasing to you, keeping clearly in mind the difference between feeling temptation and consenting to it.” [St. Francis de Sales, The Fulfillment of All Desires,]

“Purging the soul is a lifetime effort. There is no reason to be upset by our imperfections, for perfection is nothing more than fighting against them. How can we resist them unless we see them? How can we overcome them unless we face them?” [St. Francis de Sales Introduction to the Devout Life

The fast of Lent is for our spiritual renewal, fasting helps us to change the pattern of our life and focus on practicing virtue.

Lent reminds us to Turn away from the small things in our daily life that diminish our souls, mean comments, angry outbursts, lying and swearing.

To eliminate them from our life will provide us the fertile soil for God’s Word to grow more deeply into our hearts and our actions. lies the true value fasting in Lent.

May God Be Praised and your Lent be a blessing.
