A Daily Dose of God

Today is the last day of the Christmas Season and we will enter into Ordinary Time.  This time is anything but Ordinary in either the spiritual or worldly sense.  I suggest we spend the next several days reflecting on excerpts from the book “Prayer Takes Us Home.”

We can make our Ordinary Days extraordinary if we allow the Holy Spirit to guide.

Prayer is the breath, the essence of our spiritual life, I will be sharing excerpts from Fr. Gehard Lohfink’s book: “Prayer Takes Us Home: The Theology and Practice of Christian Prayer.”

His chapter headings are:

1.    To Whom Do We Pray

2.    God Is Acting Today

3.    The Church Has Many Forms of Prayer

4.    Praise Is for a Reason

5.    Should We Ask for Things in Prayer?

6.    Lament Is a Legitimate Form of Prayer

7.    The Psalms Give Us a Home

8.    Meditation Makes History Present

9.    What Happens in the Eucharistic Prayer?

10. Each of Us Has a Personal History Prayer

Fr. Lohfink writes in his Preface, “This book … [is] not in the form of hasty recipes … it leads us into the theology of prayer.” [p. ix] There are many references to the Bible, in particular the Psalms, but also, to “… prayer in worship services and the basic structure of Christian meditation.” [ix]   I pray that these reflections on the meaning and the practice of prayer will, bear fruit in your spiritual life.

Saint Joseph, pray for us.

Saint Andre Bessette, intercede for us.

May God Be Praised!
