Blog Post 9/07/2023 – Why Are You Here?

Why Are You Here?

“You’re not here by chance, but by God’s choosing.  His hand formed you and made you the person you are … He has allowed you to be here at this time in history to fulfill His special purpose for this generation.” [Roy Lessin]

Fulfill your purpose and your joy will be complete.

May God Be Praised!

Thank you for the Birthday well wishes and prayers.

Blog Post 9/06/2023 - Birthday Thought

Birthday Thought

Today is my 76th birthday and I believe that the hardest prayer to pray and to live is “…thy will be done ….”

Dear Lord, give me the grace to know Your Will and the courage to do Your Will.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 9/05/2023 - Memorial of St. Teresa of Calcutta

St. Teresa of Calcutta, a.k.a. Mother Teresa

A tiny woman, she began with the most meager of resources.  Mother Teresa of Calcutta, India died as a world-known figure.  Who would have ever thought she would have attained such influence when she first began?  What did she have to recommend her?

Mother Teresa told her superiors, “I have three pennies and a dream from God to build an orphanage.”   Mother’s superiors said, “you can’t build an orphanage with three pennies ... with three pennies you can’t do anything.”

“I know,” she said, smiling, “but with God & three pennies I can do anything.” [Sermons.com, God and Three Pennies]

Mother Teresa understood Jesus’ parable of the seed.  When God blesses, miracles occur. Today Thank God for the miracles He has given you.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 9/04/2023 – Labor Day

Labor Day 2023

The sand from our time at the beach has been washed away, the bitter taste saltwater has been rinsed from our mouths, but the memories of Sunset Beach 2023 are nourished by our love of God and our love for each other.  Many years ago, Bob Hope sang “Thanks for the memories ….”

So today, Labor Day take a few minutes and listen to “Thanks for the Memory”, a song made famous by Bob Hope and Shirley Ross https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNpmaYMpXwY

May your memories enrich your life today and each day you reflect on them, but most importantly remember to reflect on your most precious memory God loving you.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 9/03/2023 - Remember July 4, 1939, Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day

Remember July 4, 1939, Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day

In the midst of battling the disease that now carries his name [The Lou Gehrig disease], at a ceremony in Yankee stadium, Lou said, “Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”

Thanking his family, he praised his wife for showing “more courage than you dreamed existed.”

He ended his speech by saying, “I might have been given a bad break, but I’ve got an awful lot to live for.”

Each one of us will get some bad breaks, but we have “an awful lot to live for”, we are building the Kingdom of God, and it doesn’t get better than that.

Words to reflect on today.

May God Be Praised!

Blog Post 9/02/2023

Homily Cycle I 9/02/2023 Offered at OLPH.

Since it is Salesian Saturday, it is appropriate to start my homily with this quote from de Sales, “Let God be the air in which your heart breathes at ease.” Today’s parable might cause our breathing to increase dramatically increase because it reminds us that one day, we will meet our Creator and be asked to provide an accounting of our life.

Bishop Barron shared this powerful insight into to today’s Gospel, he received it from a scripture scholar who taught with him ]Barron] at Mundelein Seminary.  Fr. Schoenstene said, the talents represent the mercy of God when we participate in God’s divine love.  God’s mercy is freely given to us, and we are called to give it to others as pure gift.  Today’s Gospel reminds that the divine gifts that we are given stayed buried unless we give them away.

Take a few minutes to reflect on whether you are giving God’s mercy away, in fact do you, “Let God be the air in which your heart breathes at ease.”

May God Be Praised.

From Carmina Gadelica

“Peace between neighbors,

Peace between kindred,

Peace between lovers,

In love of the King of life.

Peace between person and person,

Peace between wife and husband,

Peace between woman and children,

The peace of Christ above all peace.”

May God Be Blessed!
