Blog Post 02-28-2025 Ordinary Time

Next week, Ash Wednesday, we leave Ordinary Time in the Church, let's reflect on these two thoughts: "What worthy return can we make for so great a condescension? The One Only-begotten God, ineffably born of God, entered the Virgin's womb and grew and took the frame of poor humanity." St. Hilary of Poitiers

Pope Francis “Do I desire to allow myself to be enveloped by the shadow of the Holy Spirit, by the gentleness and meekness of God, by the kindness of God, making room for him in my heart, drawing near to his forgiveness, to the Eucharist?”

As Ordinary time gives way to Lent focus on how will the Eucharist nourish us and how will the Only-begotten Son of God be the center of our lives.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post 02-27-2028 The Direction of Intention & The Day is Ending

                                                        Direction of Intention

“My God, I give you this day.  I offer you, now, all of the good that I shall do … and I promise to accept, for love of you, all of the difficulty that I shall meet.  Help me to conduct myself during this day In a manner [most] pleasing to you.”

                                                    Day Is Ending Prayer

Thank you for all the gifts of the day, for the place I spent it And for those with whom I spent it, for all its joys and all its sorrows, for the troubles overcome and for those that remain.
I offer you the silence of this night, its darkness and its solitude.  Whether you chose
under the cover of this night to take away the problems of this day, or leave them for tomorrow, I will bless your name.
Thy will be done.  Amen

 May God Be Praised.

Ma God Be Praised.

Blog Post for 02-26-2025 We are God's people

Jesus continually summons us in the Gospel and St. Paul in his Letter to the Hebrews [8], reminds us “I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

St. Francis de Sales, Bishop & Doctor of the Church, known as the Gentleman Saint, offers us to wonderful and beautiful prayers to bookend our day. Direction of Intention to begin focused on God & the Day Is Ending to conclude our day reviewing how we lived the day.

I pray that St. Francis de Sales intercede on your behalf today. Tomorrow I will post both prayers.

Blog Post for 02-25-2025.

The to the Hebrews speaks about Melchizedek who both king & priest foreshadowed Jesus who is THE KING & THE PRIEST.

Today pray that the gift of life be held in a place of honor from conception to natural death; let us not forget to thank God for the gift of the Priesthood & in particular the gift of our priests, Fr. Marty & Msgr. Sacks.

Each life is precious and may help shine the light of Christ in our nation & in our world.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post for 02-24-2025 Voice in the desert.

A man walking in the desert heard a voice say, “Pick up stones & pebbles, put them in your pocket, and tomorrow you will be both sorry and happy.”

The man listened. He gathered a handful of stones & pebbles and put them in his pocket. The next morning, he continued his journey, as he traveled, he reached into his pocket & instead of stones & pebbles, he found diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.

He was both sorrow and happy—happy that he had taken some, sorry he had not taken a lot more. So, it is for us in learning and nourishing our relationship with God; some day when we meet God, we will be both happy & sad. Happy that we learned & loved and sad that we did not learn & love more. Be the best disciple that you can be today & when tomorrow gets here it will be today.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post for 02-23-2025.

Jesus said that He and the Father are One, with the Holy Spirit they are: Father, Son & Holy Spirit – three persons yet one God. Hans Urs von Balthasar offered us this insight into the Blessed Trinity, every act of speech consists of:

A Speaker – the Father

A Word – the Son

The Breath to animate the voice – the Holy Spirit. Three in One.

Today and every day we pray not so much to God as inside God Who is Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

As we remember Martin Luther King, Jr., who said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive our hate. Only love can do that.”

May the work he led for social justice continue and may each of us as a disciple of Christ shine His Light & share His Love by our lives.

May God Be Praised.

Blog Post for 02-22-2025.

Do you consider yourself rich? What would you do if Jesus asked you to sell what you have … give it to the poor … your treasure will be in heaven & follow Him?

For a Camel passing through a needle, all its goods must be removed, think about what you have and what you can do without, what you can give up?

May God Be Praised.
