Blog Post 12/09/2022 Advent Sojourn - Homily Cycle I Offered on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception for OLPH School and R.E.P. Trursday, Decen-mber 8, 2022students

“Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, ‘full of grace’ through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception.

Today our Gospel is about Mary’s yes to God, and we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception.  The Angelus was developed during the Middle Ages to teach the basics of our faith to the population, that did not read or write.  The Angelus was prayer three times a day, at 6:00 am, 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm., but I suggest you pray it once a day.  Join with me and we will pray The Angelus with together, please take out your paper with The Angelus.

V. The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary.

R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary …. Amen.

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.

R. Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary....  Amen.

V. And the Word was made Flesh.

R. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary.... Amen.

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech You, O Lord, Your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Your Son, was made known by the message of an Angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.  Amen.

I mentioned earlier that we are celebrating the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary; meaning that Mary was preserved from all sin.  The Church through the centuries became ever more aware that Mary, ‘full of grace’ through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception.  The dogma of the Immaculate Conception was officially proclaimed in 1854 Pope Pius IX.

Mary said YES to God and Adam and Eve were disobedient, they said NO to God.  This Advent obey your parents, help around the house, work hard as a student and that can be your Christmas gift to baby Jesus.  Ask your parents if you can pray the Angelus before or after dinner each night during the rest of Advent.

May God Be Praised.
