Palm Sunday is this Sunday, Lent end next week, when we have The Sacred Triduum Holy Week, and then great Easter celebration. E.C. McKenzie said, “Feed your faith and your doubts will starve to death.” That is a wonderful insight for us to think about during the final days of Lent.
In our first reading Jeremiah we heard, “Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord.” St. Augustine said, those who sing, pray twice. So no matter what your voice is like, sing out.
The Lord has rescued us. St. Francis de Sales offers us this sage advice, the best time to serve the Lord “… is the present time …. The past is no longer yours; the future has not yet come & is uncertain. The best time is really the present ….” [St. Francis de Sales, Sermons]
In today’s Gospel Jesus explains that He is consecrated by the Father to bring the Good News to the world. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Our Baptism consecrated us to God so we could bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world.
How? By our lives, by living the Good News in the world. In our Gospel the Jews are celebrating the Feast of Dedication; the re-dedication of the Temple, today that celebration is known as Hanukah [the festival of lights]. Lent for us is a reminder to re-dedicate our lives to Living the Good News in the world. A reminder for us to preserve, with love and joy. Like the disciples on the Road to Emmaus we are called to recognize Jesus to feed our faith and starve our doubts with His Word and His Eucharist.
Take a few minutes today to reflect on how you are doing at that, and during the last few days of Lent focus on being the best Christian you can be.
