Father Marty began Mass with this prayer: “O God, who open your Kingdom to those who are humble and to little ones, lead us to follow trustingly in the little way of Saint Thérèse, so that through her intercession we may see your eternal glory revealed.
Today we celebrate St. Teresa of Lisieux, a.k.a. [“The Little Flower”] her autobiography is “The Story of a Soul”, was made into a movie; one you should watch with your family. She is a Doctor of the Church, which means we should pay special attention to her writings & her life.
I want to share four spiritual insights she gave us: 1. “Our Lord does not look so much at the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love with which we do them." 2. "For me, prayer is … a simple look turned toward heaven, … embracing both trial and joy." 3. "Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice… a smile, a kind word, do it all for love." 4. “I always say an Our Father or a Hail Mary very slowly, and these prayers … cheer me up and nourish my soul…."
What can we learn from her:
1. Whatever we do – offer it to God.
2. Pray every day [rain or shine].
3. When you help out in your heart, say “For You God.”
In our Gospel Jesus reminds us that being childlike, not childish brings us close to The Kingdom. Today our prayer is that we do these "little things" for our family members because we love God and love them. Today take some time to sit quietly and pray to God; thanking God for creating you, and remembering God made you in His image and likeness – that is awesome.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
St. Andre Bessette, intercede for us.
St. Francis de Sales, pray for us.
