A Few Thoughts on the Eucharist

A Few Thoughts on the Eucharist

"Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: The Blessed Sacrament ... There you will find romance, glory, honor, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves on earth, and more than that: Death. By the divine paradox, that which ends life, and demands the surrender of all, and yet by the taste (or foretaste) of which alone can what you seek in your earthly relationships (love, faithfulness, joy) be maintained, or take on that complexion of reality, of eternal endurance, which every man’s heart desires."  [An Excerpt From, Manual for Eucharistic Adoration, J. R. R. Tolkien, p. 119]

“Blessed are they who trust Jesus when He said, “This My Body and this is My Blood,” because He invited His Apostles and us to His Sacred Meal.  Indeed, blessed are they who TRUST in the Lord, and blessed are we if we accept the graces and the crosses that God allows.  The most important Grace Jesus offers is the Eucharist.  The graces are often overlooked, the crosses are often easy to see and hard to carry.  Both the graces and the crosses are avenues to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior.”  [Deacon George Kelly]

“But let each of the faithful be zealous, before he eats anything else, to receive the eucharist …. The cup, when thou hast given thanks in the name of the Lord, thou hast accepted as the image of the blood of Christ.”

[Aleteia, St. Hippolytus of Rome, a bishop of the 2nd century, writes these instructions in The Apostolic Tradition]

Take a few minutes today, to reflect on The Eucharist a gift beyond all gifts and thank God for the privilege of being nourished on the True Presence.

St. Joseph, pray for us.

St. Andre Bessette, intercede for us.

St. Francis de Sales, pray for us.

“Tune my spirit to the music of heaven.”  [St. Brendan the Navigator]

May God Be Praised and you be blessed
