“Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.”  The greatest spiritual gift is, loving God with our whole heart, mind, soul and will.  Paul ends his letter; “at present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am known fully.  So faith, hope, love remain, these three; the greatest of these is love.” 

He isn’t speaking about the overly sentimental, overly sensual, overly self-indulgent love that permeates our society; he is speaking about LOVE that puts God first, our neighbor second and ourselves third.
